About (Veena George – Biography)

Veena George began her career as a journalist trainee at Kairali TV. She quit Kairali TV to work as a news anchor for Manorama News. She was also in charge of several programs at Manorama News, including Pularvela and Ee Oakham. Later in her career, she worked for Malayalam news networks India vision, Reporter TV, and TV New. She was the principal news editor of India vision. She joined TV News as Executive Editor in February 2015.

Veena George was nominated as the CPI(M) candidate for the Aranmula constituency in the 2016 Kerala Assembly Elections. She was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly by a margin of 7646 votes over Congress veteran K Sivadasan Nair of the Indian National Congress.

In the 2019 Indian general election, she ran as a Left Front candidate from Pathanamthitta (Lok Sabha constituency) (LDF). However, she lost the election to Anto Antony of the Indian National Congress by 44,243 votes. In 2021, she was re-elected to the Kerala legislative assembly from the Aranmula constituency, beating Indian National Congress candidate Adv K Sivadasan Nair by a margin of 19003 votes. She was appointed Minister of Health and Social Welfare in Pinarayi Vijayan’s Cabinet, succeeding K.K Shailaja.
