Shailaja was born to K. Kunthan and K. K. Shantha on 20 November 1956. In 1980, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Pazhassi Raja N. S. S. College, Mattanur, and a Bachelor of Education from Visvesvarayya College. She later taught physics at Shivapuram High School in Kannur. She retired in 2004 after seven years of service to pursue full-time political activism.
Since 19 April 1981, K. K. Shailaja married K. Bhaskaran. They have two boys, Lasith and Sobhith.
K. K. Shailaja was elected as a CPI(M) Central Committee member during the CPI(M22nd )’s Congress, which took place in Hyderabad, Telangana, between April 18 and 22, 2018. She is also the State Secretary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association. Apart from serving as district secretary, state secretary, and secretary of the All India Mahila Association, she edited the Shylaja Mahila Association’s Shrine Mahila Association.

About (K K Shailaja – Biography)
In the Kerala Legislative Assembly, she represented Kuthuparamba in 1996 and Peravoor in 2006, located in the Kannur district. Shailaja won the Kuthuparamba seat with a total of 67,013 votes, a margin of 12,291 votes. She is the minister of Health and Social Welfare in the Pinarayi Vijayan government.
Shailaja Teacher has earned a reputation for her unrelenting devotion and excellent work ethic throughout her tenure as Health Minister.
