Stephen King Bio and Career:
American novelist Stephen Edwin King writes stories about suspense, horror, science fiction, and fantasy. He was born in Portland, Maine, on September 21, 1947. His mother Nellie Ruth worked as a housewife, and his father Donald King was a marine merchant. When he was a little child, his father left the household. After that, the family made the decision to go to Stratford, Connecticut, but when he was eleven, they came back to Maine. King can not remember the occurrence, but according to his family, he witnessed his friend being struck by a train and passing away. But this event served as the inspiration for King’s writings. Stephen King attended Durham Elementary School and Lisbon Falls High School, where he received his diploma.
He attended the “University of Maine” and graduated with a bachelor’s in science. Together with his close buddy Chris Chesley, he released a collection of 18 short stories while he was a student here. ‘People, Places, and Things was the title. After the passing of King’s mother in 1974, he relocated to Boulder, Colorado. King created his book “The Shining” here. The Stand, his fourth book, was released in 1978. He also contributed to comic books, primarily X-Men and Batman: The Beginning. Only a few places had copies of his ‘The Gunslinger’ book from the ‘Dark Tower’ epic, therefore it wasn’t widely publicized. However, the second and third books in this narrative gradually became successful sellers.
Additionally, he wrote under the pen name “John Swithen” for his book, “The Fifth Quarter.” King was involved in an accident in June 1999; he was struck by a car and sustained numerous serious wounds and fractures. He underwent five major surgeries in ten days, received treatment, and then resumed writing on “On Writing.” Because of his damaged hip, he was unable to write for longer than 40 minutes. The discomfort then spiked significantly at that point. The injuries caused King to write less frequently, and in 2002 he declared that he would stop. Before making this revelation, he wrote the online-submitted fiction “The Plant.” He also wrote the e-book “Riding the Bullet.” Bram Stoker Awards, World Fantasy Awards, and British Fantasy Society Awards have all been given to King. He received the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation in 2003.
Additionally, he has won honors for his contributions to literature throughout his entire body of work, including the 2007 Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America and the 2004 World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement. He received a National Medal of Arts in 2015 for his services to literature from the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts. The publishing house Doubleday approved King’s book, Carrie, in 1973. Although it was King’s fourth novel, it was his first to be made public. Using a portable typewriter owned by his wife Tabitha, he composed it.
The first three pages of a short tale that King had written for Cavalier magazine were thrown in the trash. He expanded the story into a novel after Tabitha found the pages and urged him to finish it, promising to assist him with the feminine perspective. He stated: “Because I was dry and had no other ideas, I persisted. I genuinely believed that I had written the greatest loser of all time.” The Guardian claims that Carrie “is the tale of Carrie White, a high school student with latent telekinetic abilities who later develops them as the book goes on.
King’s phone was inoperable when Carrie was chosen for publication. In late March or early April 1973, King’s close friend and Doubleday editor William Thompson sent him a telegram that read: “Officially a Doubleday book, Carrie. Advance Against Royalties of $2,500. Congratulations, Kid! The Best Is Yet To Come, Bill.” King claimed that he used the advance to purchase a new Ford Pinto. The paperback rights were purchased by New American Library on May 13, 1973, for $400,000, which was divided between them in accordance with King’s agreement with Doubleday. King’s Carrie launched his literary career and became a major horror classic. It was turned into a lucrative horror movie in 1976.
Salem’s Lot by Stephen King was released in 1975. He stated in a 1987 edition of The Highway Patrolman magazine, “To me, the tale seems somewhat commonplace. It holds a particularly dear place in my heart.” King and his family relocated to Boulder, Colorado, where he wrote The Shining after his mother passed away. In 1975, the family moved back to Auburn, Maine, where he finished The Stand. His third and youngest kid, Owen Philip, joined the family on a brief trip to England in 1977. In the following fall, they moved back to Maine, where King started instructing creative writing at the University of Maine.

Different Seasons, a collection of four novellas by Stephen King that has a more somber dramatic bent than his best-known works of horror fiction, was released in 1982. Three of its four novellas were made into Hollywood movies, making it notable: The Shawshank Redemption was adapted from Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Stand by Me was adapted from The Body, and Apt Pupil was adapted from the novella of the same name.
King contributed a few pages to the X-Men comic book Heroes for Hope Starring the X-Men in 1985, his first work for the comic book genre. Authors from the comic book industry, including Chris Claremont, Stan Lee, and Alan Moore, as well as authors who are not often connected with comics, such as Harlan Ellison, contributed to the book, which raised money for famine relief in Africa. The next year, King released It, the best-selling hardcover book in the country that year, and he also authored the introduction to Batman No. 400, a special anniversary issue, in which he argued that Batman should be preferred above Superman.
