Barker worked as a trash collector in Laguna Beach after graduating from Fontana High School and played in the punk rock bands Snot and Feeble, a Fontana-based band where he met Chad Larson. Scott Raynor, the trio’s drummer, informed his colleagues that he would be leaving after the SnoCore Tour in February 1998.Barker, who had no time to prepare or practise with the duo, learned the drum tracks for the 20-song setlist in only 45 minutes before the first show and performed them flawlessly thereafter. Raynor returned in May, but the disagreements only got worse.  Raynor was fired by DeLonge and Hoppus, ostensibly due to a drinking problem, and the band rehired Barker.
