Frances Tiafoe(Tennis player)

On January 20, 1998, in Maryland, immigrants from Sierra Leone Constant (better known as Frances Sr.) Tiafoe and Alpina Kamara gave birth to Frances Tiafoe and his twin brother Franklin. His father came to America in 1993, followed by his mother in 1996, to escape the civil war in their nation. His father started working as a day labourer on the JTCC construction crew in College Park, Maryland, in 1999. He was hired as the on-site custodian and given a spare office to dwelling in until the facility was built.

For the next 11 years, Frances and Franklin spent five days a week at the centre with their father. At the age of four, they took advantage of their living situation and began playing tennis on a daily basis. When their mother was not working night shifts as a nurse, they stayed with her. Tiafoe and his brother were 5 years old when their father arranged for them to start training at the JTCC without having to pay the customary costs. Misha Kouznetsov began coaching Tiafoe at the centre when he was eight years old, after noticing his work ethic and enthusiasm for the sport.

As Tiafoe moved through the juniors, Kouznetsov assisted in sponsoring him to play in tournaments. He coached Tiafoe for another nine years before relocating to the USTA National Training Center in Boca Raton, Florida. Franklin, Frances’ brother, stayed in Maryland and played high school and college tennis at DeMatha Catholic High School and Salisbury University. The two met for the first time in 2017 in Acapulco, with del Potro winning in a third-set tiebreak.

Tiafoe won his first career ATP title in the 2018 Delray Beach Open, defeating his idol for the first time. Tiafoe enjoys watching and playing basketball and is a big fan of Kevin Durant, a fellow Washington, D.C. native. He is also a supporter of local sports clubs such as the National Football League’s Washington Football Team and the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals. “That’s one of my main goals – to get more black kids playing tennis,” Tiafoe said of his status as one of the few African American players on the ATP Tour and as a potential role model for young people in general. But all I want to do is encourage everyone, regardless of colour… especially younger people.”

About (Frances Tiafoe– Biography)

Tiafoe was ranked No. 2 overall in the International Tennis Federation’s global junior rankings before turning pro. At the ATP Challenger level, Tiafoe made his professional debut. In 2015 and 2016, he quickly ascended the ladder there until breaking into the world’s top 100 players in October of that year. This happened when he defeated Noah Rubin in the 2016 ATP Challenger. Tiafoe won the Delray Beach Open in 2018 for his first ATP Tour championship. He became the youngest American to win an ATP Tour title since Andy Roddick, and he did so by defeating Juan Martin Del Porto.

Tiafoe has steadily improved his game over the last few years. He advanced to the 2019 Australian Open quarterfinals, defeating No. 5 Kevin Anderson and No. 20 Grigor Dimitrov before falling to Rafael Nadal, the tournament’s No. 2 seed. In 2020, he advanced to the Round of 16 at the US Open. In singles competition, Tiafoe has an 81-107 record, and in doubles competition, he has a 15-24 record. He has been ranked as high as 29th in the world, which he achieved in February 2019, and he was the 56th-ranked player in the world before his encounter with Tsitsipas.

Tiafoe, like many of his top-ranked American peers such as Jack Sock and Sam Querrey, depends on a huge serve and a powerful forehand to play an aggressive attacking game. Tiafoe, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall, can hit first serves between 120 and 140 mph and can launch serves at over 140 mph. After facing him at the 2016 US Open, John Isner noted that Tiafoe could return his serve as well as any player on tour outside of Novak Djokovic. He also pointed out that Frances’ second serve should be better.

When Tiafoe won the 2018 Delray Beach Open, he credited his better performance to a better server. Misha Kouznetsov taught Tiafoe from the age of eight to seventeen at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in Maryland. Kouznetsov played collegiate tennis at UMBC and then became a college tennis coach at Robert Morris. He quit his position at the JTCC to work full-time with Tiafoe. José Higueras, who taught fellow Americans Michael Chang and Jim Courier to Grand Slam victories, mentored Tiafoe after he came to Florida to train with the USTA. While at USTA, Tiafoe collaborated with Nicolas Todero.

In the fall of 2016, Robby Ginepri, a former US Open semifinalist, began teaching Tiafoe. Zack Evenden, a friend of Tiafoe’s, began assisting him with coaching soon before he won his maiden ATP title in 2018. Before the start of the 2019 season, Evenden took over as Tiafoe’s primary coach. Following Tiafoe and Evenden mutually parted ways after the 2020 season, Tiafoe signed a former top 10 player Wayne Ferreira as another coach, with Ferreira eventually becoming his primary coach. Nike has been Tiafoe’s sponsor since May 2016. Adidas has previously sponsored him. Yonex VCORE Pro 97 tennis racket with Polytour Pro 125 strings is recommended by Tiafoe. This racket appealed to him because it allows him to “play more aggressively.”
