A professional gridiron football team headquartered in Seattle, Washington, USA named the Seattle Seahawks. They compete in the NFL’s National Football Conference (NFC) and have one Super Bowl triumph (2014) as well as three NFC titles to their name (2006, 2014, and 2015). The Seahawks began to play in 1976, the same year as their fellow expansion team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Seahawks had their first winning season in 1978 after starting off in the National Football Conference (NFC) and then moving to the American Football Conference (AFC) in 1977.

That year, head coach Jack Patera was named NFL Coach of the Year. Running back Curt Warner and wide receiver Steve Largent captained early Seahawks squads. Largent retired as the NFL’s all-time top receiver in 1995 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as Seahawk’s inaugural player. Coach Chuck Knox took the Seahawks to the AFC title game in his debut season in 1983, and he went on to win 83 games while losing only 67. It was the poorest season ever for this club after Knox left the team in 1991, when they won just two games.

About (Seattle Seahawks – Biography)

In the following years, the team struggled on the field and in the press since majority owner Ken Behring announced plans to relocate the team in 1996, citing the deterioration of the Kingdome as a factor in his decision-making. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, a multibillionaire, bought the Seahawks in 1997 and worked to secure public funding for the construction of a new stadium, ensuring the team’s future in Seattle. In 1999, Allen enlisted the help of Mike Holmgren, who was then serving as both head coach and general manager.

On draught day in 2000, the Seahawks selected quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. Together with All-Pro offensive tackle Walter Jones, he formed the nucleus of a club that would go on to win the Super Bowl two years later. The Seahawks spent their first 25 seasons in the AFC until being realigned to the NFC in 2002. During the same season, the team moved to a new stadium, which was renamed Seahawks Stadium, Qwest Field, and CenturyLink Field over the course of the following decades.

Over the course of their first six seasons in the National Football Conference, the Seahawks made the playoffs five times. The squad made its maiden trip to the Super Bowl in 2006, where it was defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime. With their performance slipping after 2007, the Seahawks underwent a series of personnel changes in the front office, coaching staff, and roster in an attempt to rebuild after Holmgren departed the team following the 2008 season. After a 7–9 regular season in 2010, the Seahawks became the first club in NFL history to make the playoffs despite having a losing record in 2011.

Before being eliminated from the playoffs the following week, Seattle had toppled the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints in its first postseason game. The Seahawks won 11 games in 2012 behind a strong defense led by renowned defensive backs Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas, as well as rookie QB sensation Russell Wilson. However, the Seahawks fell to the Atlanta Falcons in a heartbreaking playoff game, 30–28. The Seahawks had the best defense in the NFL in 2013, allowing the fewest points and yards while winning the NFC West title with a 13–3 record. After that, the club won both of its playoff games at home, advancing to the Super Bowl.

A Denver Broncos team that had established multiple offensive records during the 2013 regular season was encircled by Seattle’s dominant defense in a 43–8 triumph to win the first world title for the franchise. When the Seahawks finished 2014 with a 12–4 record, they went on to win the Super Bowl for the second time in three years, thanks to a thrilling overtime victory over Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game, which saw the Seahawks rally from a 12-point deficit with just over two minutes left to play in regulation.

In the Super Bowl, the club had come out on top over the New England Patriots after a thrilling comeback. With less than 30 seconds left in the game, the Seahawks blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead by throwing an interception from the Patriots’ one-yard line. After missing the playoffs in 2014, the Seahawks returned to the postseason in 2015, defeating the Minnesota Vikings in a thrilling game before falling to the Carolina Panthers in the divisional round.

The Seahawks had an injury-plagued season in 2016, yet they still won their division, had a win in the first round of the playoffs, and lost in the divisional round. During that season, the team’s NFL-record winning streak of 85 games without conceding more than 10 points came to an end. This past playoff run ended in disappointment for the Seahawks, who lost many of their key defensive players who had powered them to recent success.

Though many predicted that the Seahawks would finish last season with a 6-10 record, they surprised everyone by making the playoffs, where they lost their first game. After a great season by quarterback Russell Wilson, the team was knocked from the playoffs in the divisional round, despite winning 11 games and their opening postseason game in 2019.
