Sam Querrey grew up in San Francisco and graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in 2006 with a degree in film production from the University of Southern California. While competing in the Indianapolis Tennis Championships in 2007, he defeated James Blake in the quarterfinals with a run of 10 straight aces. This may be a record for the Open Era. To get to the quarterfinals of the 2007 Western & Southern Masters, he beat 13th seed Mikhail Youzhny and Argentina’s Juan Mónaco, who beat Rafael Nadal the round before.
