Ray Winstone Bio and Career:
Raymond Andrew Winstone was born on February 19th, 1957 in the city of London, England, in United Kingdom. His father, an amateur boxer named Raymond J. Winstone, also owned and operated a fruit and vegetable company. The duty of his mother, Margaret Richardson, née Richardson, was to clean out fruit machines. Ray Winstone was the only kid that his parents ever had. Ray attended the Portway Infants School in London when he first started school.
He relocated to Enfield with his parents when he was seven years old, and he completed his schooling at Brimsdown Primary School once they settled there. After some time, he transferred to the Edmonton County School. He joined the Repton Amateur Boxing Club when he was 12 years old and continued his training there. In a short amount of time, he won the title of three-time London schoolboy champion. Over the course of 10 years, he finally won eighty out of eighty-eight of his fights.
It’s possible that he started his acting training at Corona Stage Academy in 1975, while the year was still 1975. However, for some unknown reason, he was not well-liked by the staff, and he was ultimately kicked out of the school in 1976 for “vandalizing the headmistress’s tires.” Winstone started his career in television in 1976, not long after he was kicked out of the Academy. He played the part of an anonymous young thug in the episode “Loving Arms” of the famous police series “The Sweeney.” Raymond Winstone is the name that was given to him for credit in this production.
In 1979, he made his acting debut in the drama film ‘That Summer,’ in which he played the role of Steve Brodie. Also In 1977, he tried out for the character of Carlin in Alan Clarke’s television drama ‘Scum,’ which he finally played. At the time, the show was still in production. However, since it was deemed inappropriate, the production wasn’t shown on television until the year 1991. 1979 saw the release of a completely remade version of the film “Scum,” which had Winstone in the same part as Carlin from the previous version.
In the same year, he also participated in the drama film “Quadrophenia,” which was a rough adaptation of the 1973 rock opera of the same name. He played the role of Kevin Herriot in the film. It was a slow time for him from 1980 to 1983; throughout this whole era, he only featured in four projects (three on television and one in the movies). Eventually, in the year 1984, he was given his second major break when he was chosen to portray Will Scarlet in a total of twenty-four episodes of the show ‘Robin of Sherwood.’ As a result of his part, he gained a lot of popularity.
In spite of the success he had as Will Scarlet, he continued to have very little success in the entertainment industry for over a decade, and on October 4, 1988, he was declared bankrupt. He did not let this dissuade him, and he continued to act in any parts he could get. In 1989, he was involved in the production of the thriller film “Tank Malling,” in which he also played the role of John Tank Malling. Despite receiving positive reviews, it did not help his career prospects in any way. On March 19, 1993, he was given a second declaration of bankruptcy.

In contrast, the latter project began its preproduction work in February, and Winstone joined the cast of the later project in June. Winstone’s acting career didn’t start to take off until after he portrayed an abusive husband in the 1996 film “Nil by Mouth.”
This is despite the fact that he gained enormous popularity for his part in the television series “Robin of Sherwood” (1984-1986), which aired from 1984-1986. Not only did it establish him as a celebrity, but it also led to him receiving his very first prize. Winstone tied the knot with Elaine McCausland in 1979, and the couple has been blessed with three children: Lois, Jaime, and Ellie Rae. Among them, Lois is a well-known vocalist as well as an accomplished actress who has been in a few movies.
Jaime, the second daughter, is also an actress and has aspirations of one day being a director. While Ray Winstone was still a student at the Corona Stage Academy, he landed his first significant part in the production of “What a Crazy World,” which was performed at the Theatre Royal in Stratford, London. He had to sing and dance in order to play the character. Because of his terrible performance, even his own father pleaded with him to throw in the towel.
