Mark Greaney Bio and Career:

American author Mark Greaney, who specializes in thriller literature, was born in 1967. He is well known for working with Tom Clancy on his last works while he was still alive and for carrying on the Tom Clancy world and the Jack Ryan character after Clancy’s passing in 2013. Greaney reflected on the event and recalled: “Although I’d want to say I was thrilled, the fact is that I was afraid. Since there were a few other writers in the running, I volunteered to “try out” when I had a moment to collect myself. I completed 25 pages of writing, sent them in, and shortly after that, I was in Baltimore having a meeting with Tom Clancy.” They then worked together on Command Authority, Threat Vector, and Locked On, three of Clancy’s last books before his passing in October 2013.

Red Metal, a military thriller written by Greaney and Lieutenant Colonel H. Ripley Rawlings IV of the USMC, was published on July 16, 2019. In August 2019, the book made its debut on the New York Times bestseller list. For the first time ever, Greaney made the list of New York Times bestsellers twice in one year. The book is noteworthy for its similarities to Tom Clancy’s 1986 book Red Storm Rising, which is also his first solo book to address a major military clash between NATO and Russia.
