Luke Carberry is an American actor who attended the Western Academy of Beijing. Despite being born in the United States in 1996, he moved to Beijing with his family when he was 5 years old in 2001 to study Mandarin Chinese. After finishing Grade 9, Luke was 14 years old when Dutch-Norwegian director Harald Zwart approached him and offered him a small role in the film The Karate Kid. From July to October of 2009, the film was shot. It was shot during summer vacation so that kids would not miss out on school, and other real school children also took part in the filming. Len Carberry recalls watching the film for the first time. “No one had seen the film until that point. They [the main characters] arrive in Beijing in a taxi in front of their apartment building very early in the film.
