A few days later, Luger won the ‘Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament’ alongside Sting. On July 10, 1988, Luger challenged Ric Flair, leader of the ‘Horsemen,’ for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Before the game, the ‘Horsemen’ beat up Luger. As Luger was ready to win, the referee called a “kayfabe” (manufactured injury) and halted the fight. That was in December 1988. Against Windham, he won his second ‘NWA United States Heavyweight Championship’ in 1989.
On March 18, 1989, his new partner Michael P.S. Hayes turned on him, challenging him for the US title. Hayes won the first fight but lost to Luger 2 weeks later. With his victory at ‘Halloween Havoc 1989: Settling the Score’ and a rematch at ‘Clash of the Champions IX: New York Knockout,’ he ended their feud. In February 1990, Luger was unexpectedly promoted to challenge Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. But he failed. Nevertheless, Luger defeated Flair in a steel-caged battle at ‘Capital Combat’ a few months later.
At ‘Halloween Havoc: 1990,’ he lost the title to Stan Hansen. But he got it back in ‘Starrcade 1990: Collision Course.’ He defended it against Dan Spivey at ‘WrestleWar 1991: WarGames.’ The scheduled June 14, 1991, match between Luger and Flair for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship never happened. Following this, Flair lost his belt. As a result of these events, Luger and Windham faced up for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on June 14, 1991, at ‘The Great American Bash.’
He defended the title against many opponents until he lost it to Sting at ‘SuperBrawl II’ on February 29, 1992. Luger quit the WCW after the loss and joined the WBF (WBF). Soon after, he was killed in a motorcycle accident. The federation died before he recovered. After the WBF folded, he joined the WWF, later renamed World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (WWE). He went by “Narcissus” for a while before changing it to “The Narcissist.” His motorbike crash was part of the ‘WWE gimmick, which sparked debate among wrestlers.
Luger had to wear an elbow pad and follow other rules. During the matches, Luger routinely removed it. Then, on April 4, 1993, Luger defeated Mr Perfect at ‘WrestleMania IX’. Luger was rebranded “The All-American” and “Made in the USA” in mid-1993. On July 4, he arrived by helicopter. He bodyslammed the 600 pounds WWF World Heavyweight Champion Yokozuna (270 kg). Many people, inside and outside the ‘WWF,’ have tried and failed. But he lost the title against Yokozuna in the highly anticipated SummerSlam 1993 match.
Late in 1993, Luger and Ludvig Borga feuded. On November 24, 1993, Luger and his ‘All-Americans’ squad challenged Borga and his ‘Foreign Fanatics team, which included Yokozuna. Luger pinned Borga to win. Luger and Bret Hart shared the Royal Rumble 1994 victory. As a result, Luger was allowed to defeat Yokozuna for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, which he lost at WrestleMania X. Luger established ‘The Allied Powers’ with Davey Boy Smith in early 1995.
They beat several teams. Their winning streak earned them a chance to wrestle for the WWF World Tag Team Championship at In Your House 2: The Lumberjacks, but they lost. A challenger for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Luger lost to Hulk Hogan on September 11, 1995. “Halloween Havoc” (1995) saw him join “Dungeon of Doom”. Luger defeated Masa Chono of the ‘New Japan Pro-Wrestling Co. Ltd.’ at ‘Starrcade (1995): World Cup of Wrestling’ (NJPW).
On January 22, 1996, Luger and Sting defeated the tag team ‘Harlem Heat’ to win the WCW World Tag Team Championship. In 1996, he defeated Johnny B. Badd in the WCW World Television Championship. Then he won it again on March 6, 1996. The ‘Dungeon of Doom’ and the ‘Horsemen’ joined forces to beat Hulk Hogan’s crew. But they lost because Luger erred. So he was kicked out of the barn. At the 1996 ‘Great American Bash,’ he challenged The Giant for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
He then defeated ‘The Outsiders with The Giant to win the World Tag Team Championship. A week later, on August 9, 1997, Luger lost the WCW World Heavyweight Championship to Hulk Hogan in an unexpected contest. On August 10, 1998, he beat Bret Hart in an impromptu title contest for the record-tying fifth time. But he lost to Hart. Lex Luger died after ‘Fall Brawl’ (1999), which was renamed ‘The Total Package’. With Flair and Buff Bagwell, he established the tag teams’ Team Package’ and ‘Buffed.’
After 2002, he only wrestled occasionally. A member of the “World Wrestling All-Stars,” he also won the “WWA World Heavyweight Championship.” On December 13, his final tour, he lost against Sting. A year later, Luger moved to TNA, now known as IMPACT Wrestling. He would occasionally enter their contests. On August 26, 2006, he retired alongside Bagwell. It was their first match, and they beat Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett. On September 22, 2007, he was inducted into the PWHOF. His TNA Hall of Fame induction came in 2012. He started working with the WWE in 2011 on their ‘Wellness Policy.’
