Kyle Mills Bio and Career:
Kyle David Mills, a former international cricketer from New Zealand and current bowling coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders, was born on March 15, 1979. He has also served as the limited-overs cricket team captain for New Zealand. Between 1998 and 2015, Mills competed in top-tier cricket as a bowler. He played for New Zealand in three World Cup competitions in 2003, 2011, and 2015. He was a part of the first New Zealand T20I squad. He also held the top spot in the ICC ODI bowling rankings in 2009 and spent a significant amount of time among the top 10 bowlers in ODI cricket. Mills competed for Auckland on the home front. In the 1998/1999 season, he made his first-class debut for Auckland.
He was chosen by Kings XI Punjab for the 2008 Indian Premier League, however, he did not participate in any of the games. [15] The Mumbai Indians subsequently purchased him for the 2009 Indian Premier League, however, they only employed him as a net bowler during that year’s IPL Due to his ongoing knee ailment, he declared himself ineligible for the 2010 Indian Premier League. During the 2000–01 ARY Gold Cup, he made his ODI debut on April 15, 2001, against Pakistan. Imran Nazir was dismissed on that occasion, giving him his first ODI wicket. In his second ODI encounter, which finally took place during the ARY Gold Cup Tri-nation series, he bowled a match-winning stint. He picked up 3/30 against Sri Lanka and shared the man-of-the-match award with Mathew Sinclair.
He participated in his first ICC Champions Trophy match during the 2002 tournament, which was played in Sri Lanka. In two matches, he finished the 2002 Champions Trophy with three wickets. At the 2003 Cricket World Cup, he made his World Cup debut. However, he only played in one World Cup group stage game and was wicketless. On June 10, 2004, three years after his ODI debut, he faced England in his test debut.
Only after worries about Shane Bond and Daryl Tuffey’s injuries did he make his test debut at Trent Bridge. On his test debut, he sustained a side strain, which limited him to just six overs in England’s first innings and prevented him from bowling in the second. He was then disqualified from the remaining tests in the series.
He participated in the world’s first T20I match between New Zealand and Australia on February 17, 2005. Although Mills and Tuffey opened the bowling for New Zealand in the first T20I, which they lost by 44 runs, they had a significant influence, each taking 3/44 in the match. He established himself as a prominent pacer in international cricket during the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy, which served as a turning point in his career. He completed the competition as the Kiwis’ top wicket-taker with 10 wickets in only four games. Mills had to withdraw from the 2007 Cricket World Cup after suffering an injury in Australia in February 2007.
Additionally, Uhura Rudras chose him for the 2012 Sri Lanka Premier League’s first season. He committed to playing for Middlesex in the 2013 Friends Life t20 after signing a deal with the English county cricket. On April 1, 2015, Mills declared his retirement from all forms of cricket. A day after Daniel Vettori declared his retirement from all forms of cricket, he made the same announcement. With 240 wickets, he is New Zealand’s second-leading wicket-taker in one-day international cricket, behind only Daniel Vettori’s 297. He also has the most ODI wickets of any New Zealand seamer.
With 28 kills in 15 games, he also holds the record for most ICC Champions Trophy wickets taken. Throughout his playing career, he was sidelined due to persistent injury issues. Throughout the beginning and end of his international career, he had knee and shoulder surgery as well as rehabilitation. His test career, which lasted only 19 games and was cut short in 2009 due to ongoing injury issues, suffered as a result. He did, however, become a white ball expert and a leading strike bowler for New Zealand.

In addition, he was not chosen for the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the first competition in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. After a patella tendon surgery and a winter of recovery, he was able to return to fitness in time to participate in New Zealand’s tour of South Africa in November and December 2007. Initially sidelined for at least a year, he eventually fought his way back to fitness. Due to a stomach virus, Mills was called into the test side but was forced to withdraw from the second and final Test.
Fresh into the three-game one-day series, Mills was the standout bowler for New Zealand in all three games, including a career-best 5/25 in the first game. Mills received the series’ man of the series award despite New Zealand losing the matchup 2-1. Mills kept his spot in the ODI team in part because of Shane Bond’s absence and his continuing outstanding performance. From 2008 forward, Mills established himself as a frontline bowler for New Zealand in limited-overs games and was developed to replace Bond’s shoes.
He destroyed the English top order in a test match against England in March 2008 with a spell of 4/16, which was also his highest test performance to date. His bowling contributed to New Zealand’s home team’s easy 188-run victory. On the last day of the test match, England was assigned a quick target of 300, and he removed Alastair Cook, Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss, and Kevin Pietersen inside the first seven overs of his stint.
He was chosen to represent New Zealand in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20, which was also his first time playing in a T20 World Cup. He also played for the New Zealand team that lost to Australia in South Africa to finish as runners-up in the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy Final.
