Ernie Johnson Jr. Bio and Career:

Ernest Thorwald “Ernie” Johnson Jr. is a sportscaster who has worked for both Turner Sports and CBS Sports. He was born on August 7, 1956. Johnson is presently the primary television voice for Major League Baseball on TBS, presents Inside the NBA for TNT, and contributes to the coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament that is broadcasted jointly by Turner and CBS. He was named after his father, Ernie Johnson Sr., who was a pitcher in the Major League Baseball and the play-by-play announcer for the Braves.

In 1977, while Johnson was still a student at the University of Georgia, he started his career by accepting a position as the news and sports director for the radio station WAGQ-FM in Athens, Georgia. At the time, he was in Athens, Georgia. He worked there until 1978, when he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Georgia, summa cum laude. Johnson got his start in the television industry at WMAZ-TV in Macon, Georgia, in the year 1979. Up until 1981, he served as an anchor for the news on that station.

In 1981, he made the move to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to begin working as a news reporter for WSPA-TV. In 1982, Johnson relocated back to Georgia and found work as a general assignment news reporter for WSB-TV in Atlanta. This time around, he lived in Atlanta. In 1983, he was given the role of weekend sports anchor and reporter at the station. He remained in those positions until 1989, when he decided to leave them to begin working for Turner Sports.

Johnson, better known by his moniker “E.J.,” serves as the studio host for TNT’s coverage of the NBA. His responsibilities include hosting the pregame and halftime programmes, as well as the illustrious postgame studio show Inside the NBA, which is shown on the network following each NBA doubleheader. Since its inception in 1990, he has presided as host. This changed in May 2007 when vitaminwater became a sponsor for the segment, and they were replaced by Panasonic’s Viera line of televisions for 2008.

Ernie presents “E.J.’s Neat-O Stat of the Night” at the end of each broadcast, which has become a popular part of the show but is not sponsored by anyone, hence the sign that says “Your logo here.” His portions were sponsored by Intel Centrino during the 2005–2006 season and, more recently, by Suzuki. During the 2008 NBA Playoffs, Geico and vitaminwater were his sponsors, and they presented his segments.

Johnson is often accompanied by former NBA players such as Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and sometimes Chris Webber, Grant Hill, and Reggie Miller for any and all of his programmes that pertain to the NBA. During the 2012-2013 regular season, he covered the March Madness tournament on CBS with Stephen A. Smith and Charles Barkley, who were joined by Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway and Dennis Scott.
