David Flanagan Bio and Career:
Donnie McClurkin, a preacher and gospel singer, was born on November 9, 1959, in Copiague, New York to his parents, Donald McClurkin, Sr. and Frances McClurkin. Donnie McClurkin has been a pastor for almost 50 years. At the Amityville Full Gospel Tabernacle, McClurkin became a member of the choir. He joined Benny Cummings and the King’s Temple Choir when he was just fifteen years old and was a part of that group. McClurkin received his high school education at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague School.
McClurkin and his older sisters, along with a neighbour, established the McClurkin Singers in 1983. That same year, the group shared the stage with the Tri-Boro Mass Choir, which was directed by Albert Jamison. Jamison was the one who introduced McClurkin to gospel singer James Cleveland, who went on to become McClurkin’s mentor. McClurkin would often make the trip to Los Angeles, California in order to perform at the Cornerstone Institutional Baptist Church with Cleveland.
McClurkin participated as a member of the chorus in the Broadway production of Don’t Get God Started, which had its world premiere at the Longacre Theatre in New York City in the years 1987 through 1989. In 1989, McClurkin made the move to Detroit, Michigan, where he eventually became a co-founder of Perfecting Church together with Pastor Marvin L. Winans. The songs “Speak to My Heart” and “We Worship You” were both recorded by McClurkin with the assistance of the choir.
Following his signing with Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc., in 1996, McClurkin released his first self-titled solo album. Gospel singer Andrae Crouch, who served as a mentor to McClurkin, assisted in the production of the record. In the late 1990s, McClurkin acquired a publishing deal with The Walt Disney Company and contributed songs to the animated film The Prince of Egypt. These songs were performed in the film.
He also had performances at the Grammy Awards and the Stellar Awards, as well as appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show. After its publication in 2000, his second album, titled Live in London and More, debuted at number one on the U.S. Gospel Chart and remained there for more than forty weeks. Marvin L. Winans presided over McClurkin’s ordination as a pastor in the year 2001. In the same year, he laid the groundwork for what would later become Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport, New York. At first, it was just a little bible study group.
His weekly radio show, The Donnie McClurkin Show, had its debut in 2006 and has since been carried in more than seventy-five areas throughout the country. McClurkin served as a judge on BET’s Sunday Best for a total of five seasons between the years 2010 and 2015. In his career, you can find the albums Again (2003), Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs (2004), We Are All One (Live in Detroit) (2008), and Duets (2014). He also released The Journey (Live) in 2004. (2016).
David Flanagan Profile-
Awards:
In 2001, McClurkin published his autobiography titled “Eternal Victim, Eternal Victor.” He was the focus of the following biographical documentary titled “From Darkness to Light: The Donnie McClurkin Story,” which was released in 2004. McClurkin appeared in a cameo in the movie The Fighting Temptations and then went on to play opposite stars Boris Kodjoe and Idris Elba in the film The Gospel, which was released in 2005. The year 2009 saw the debut of his weekly television show on The Word Network called Perfecting Your Faith. McClurkin worked often with gospel singers Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams, particularly on the Hopeville tour.
As a result of their collaborations, McClurkin won a number of prizes for his music, including many Grammy Awards, Stellar Awards, Dove Awards, and NAACP Image Awards. Later on, vocalists Brian Courtney Wilson, Koryn Hawthrone, and Sapp joined the stage and gave an amazing performance of their hit songs that Lindsey had created. Their songs included “Worth Fighting For,” “Speak the Name,” and “Never Would Have Made It,” respectively.
After the musical tribute, Lindsey graciously collected his prize in front of everyone. The man who is now 50 years old disclosed the following in his speech: “I could probably find a way to create a narrative that suggests that in some way I had the ability to create this and do this by myself, but I’m far too smart for that cause I know had it not been for the Lord that was on my side.” He went on to say, “And I also recognise that it is not by might nor by might but rather it is by the spirit of God that we produce this song that we do.”
Although Lindsey has been working in the music business for more than two decades, he has spent his whole childhood in the presence of music due to the fact that his father was a Minister of Music and choir director. He has collaborated with many of the most prominent artists in gospel music as well as mainstream music, such as Smokie Norful, Tasha Cobbs, Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, Mary Mary, and a huge number of other artists. In addition, he has worked as a producer and a songwriter for well-known R&B musicians such as Chrisette Michelle, Kenny Lattimore, and India Arie, amongst many others.
The Stellar Gospel Music Awards honoured gospel music with an uplifting series of activities that took place over the course of a weekend and culminated with a live-taped ceremony that took place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia on July 16. The award-winning vocalists Jekalyn Carr and Kierra Sheard served as the hosts of the programme, which made its debut on BET, BET Her, and BET International on Sunday, August 7 at 8:00 PM Eastern Time/7:00 PM Pacific Time.
